For one thing, the giving of gifts everyday would certainly satisfy the retailers and businesses out there!
But it’s more than just the giving and receiving of material gifts; this is really a symbology of a much deeper aspect of universal creativity. It’s about giving of ourselves – our spiritual (non-material) gifts. It’s about giving our time and love and being open to receiving the same.
The universe works this way. When we breathe out and in, we are giving and receiving – that’s how we stay alive. We cannot do one without the other, and yet sometimes we feel like we are.
Sometimes we feel like we give much and we receive little. That is because we are focusing on the quality of one or the other.
If you find ourself worrying about “the lack” in your life – you are bringing your attention to focus only on what you are not receiving. Relating this to breathing, you may find yourself struggling to breathe in, or you may even be wanting to hold your breath! In this situation, “to give” becomes a profound healing. Although it feels like the most difficult thing to do, to shift your focus away from wanting to receive to wanting to give, is effectively the same as focusing on the exhale breath. Changing this focus shifts your attention away from serving yourself and toward serving others.
When we shift, our exhale breath releases our attachment to our condition of lack, and this healing allows a natural balance to be returned within us.
Try breathing in deeply now and feeling a sense of abundance flowing into you . . . now exhale, and feel it returning to the universe. This is giving and receiving, in perfect balance.
In truth, we cannot give more than we can receive, the “in and out” breaths work together – but we can increase the flow! If we breath deeper, we expand what we receive – equally, with the exhale breath comes an expanded release. Conversely, to give more, is to receive more. The level of your desire is up to you – there is no judgement, there is only harmony, abundance and flow – and it’s yours to get into!
We each have a gift to give; we each come to the world with a unique purpose and a synchronistic gift to contribute and we each have everyday of our life to give to this. This is our spiritual gift; in the first instance it has no material form, but as we express it, it becomes materialised for others to receive.
By giving, we are bringing out attention to the wellness and happiness of others. In this holistic universe the quality of what you give returns, so in this there is another point of healing for yourself, but of course this can’t be the driver of your motivation. Your giving of yourself can only come from your heart.
Giving and receiving is the same as breathing in and breathing out – one is a component of the other and they both sustain our existence.
Peace always
