And what do we do? Well we mount an army against it – of course! What else can we do? It’s the dark-side you know!
We fight the good fight. We draw massive attention to a situation; we dig deep beneath it so we can see who’s to blame and what it is we should be avoiding. And after all this, what do we end up with?
More and more of it – IT JUST GETS BIGGER!!
I don’t want to sound ungrateful for the work of many good people who bravely fight for a positive cause or protest for a positive future. But now the world is in danger of becoming a dark place as a result of the continuous and wide spread attention we give to our shortcomings.
There is a quote by Mother Teresa that brings perspective to all this. In my opinion it brings forward an important point if we are to truly create positive change in our society . . .
“I was once asked why I don’t participate in anti-war demonstrations. I said that I will never do that, but as soon as you have a pro-peace rally, I’ll be there.”
There lies the difference . . . “anti-war, or pro-peace”. Yes, they’re just words, and while they may derive from the same sentiment they have quite distinctly different energies. One is the glass half-empty, the other half-full. A positive outcome is always driven from a positive perception – or seeing the fullness of the glass before the emptiness.
What most of us are getting today through mass media is “the glass is half empty”. We are being blasted by the negative energies of difficult social issues and situations. Yes, our motivation may be to create positive change as in the “anti-war” rally. Our motivation may be to bring public attention to our shortcomings so that we can choose to change. But this really doesn’t work; if it did, things would have changed by now. What we are achieving is the prolonging of our pain by giving it our full and constant attention.
But here’s the positive news! Because of our negative obsessions, we are beginning to wake-up and notice a naturally occurring law in the physical universe.
“What we give out attention to expands – or becomes real”.
Beneath it all, it’s really a question of balance . . . the world wouldn’t seem quite as dark if we could get some LIGHT out there! There needs to be an equal amount (or more) of exposure to the glass being half-full! We need the good news too! And we need to support those who are working “in the light”, as well as those working “for the light”
In the light, for the light – what’s the difference?
There are many who do great work in the face of danger, who work tirelessly in life threatening situations in order to rescue the innocent. We have wonderful people who put their lives at risk for others they have never met. We have organisers and volunteers committed to bring together wide support and numbers to demonstrate the end of human suffering and environmental degradation – at all levels. These people are working “FOR THE LIGHT” – they work in the darkness of these negative situations and this is what we are constantly witnessing through mass media.
There are others whose gift is their vision. They see a world already changed for the better. They promote living in that world and they live in it themselves – they walk their talk. They don’t pay much attention to mass media, they know what’s going on out there and that it’s already getting enough attention. They know the effect it is having on those subject to its constant blast. These people are the healers; they are the embodiment of the “glass half-full”, they are working “IN THE LIGHT”. They, and their causes need to be brought to the “front”. They need to be seen and acknowledged in order that balance is achieved between darkness and light via the media. This will bring positive change in the world through the heartening of each individual.
Restore the balance now.
