“The Great Within”

Reflections on an inward journey …

Human life never seemed so crazy as the day I decided to set forth in the opposite direction of “going out”. In an outward direction, I could travel for light-years (if only). But going inward just seemed plain crazy! I was en route to a weird dimension where the speed of light was divided, and where what was infinite, took up a lot less space . . . Well, I was about to find out for sure.

Music had a lot to do with it. In fact, music had a lot to do with everything in this life. Most of us baby-boomers brought music with us in one way or another. For me, there was music in the gardens at a young age. A mesmerising spectacle in sound light and spacious vibration, perfectly linked to nature. It was there, and then it was gone … but not forgotten. You see, I think I must have swallowed it — inasmuch as it became a feeling within me, to this day. After that, there was a little gap in the music, and then a few years later it returned with a vengeance. This time with the beat of drums and voices, it was physical music and a cult for millions. I was a devotee from age 11.

The 60s music was no ordinary cult. It was like a breath of fresh sanity. It saved us all from the tediousness of schooling, but at the same time, we graduated with honours in creativity — self taught and self appointed. I was a happy participant in this outward direction. That is; up to the point where things were changing. Time was passing and you couldn’t help but notice up ahead, a growing industry attaching itself to music. An industry that consumed its creators — gobbling them up in frenzied hunger.

As music was an element of my free nature, I began to look elsewhere for inspiration . . .

There was talk in the 80s of wellbeing and meditation together. It seemed like a natural couple and a destination that connected with my creative freedom — so I turned.

I went within . . .

At first, I thought meditation would be a journey of darkness. It started that way — then it changed. There was light, but not for the outward eyes. There was another eye it was universal and it looked everywhere at once. It could follow the mind or the body. It was the eye of mind, it was multi-vibrational and it could see all things within. It could see as a thought or a feeling. It was like the “eye” of universal creativity. Meditation was my personal connection.

Meditation was sitting comfortably and still — really still. If you keep still for long enough, you can feel the experience of no-body . . . Just you and your consciousness …

Peace - Inner Peace.

The space of meditation is infinite, and yet it is no more than what you are. In that peaceful space you exist at your fullest in pure consciousness. It was in this space I heard music that harmonised in a peaceful vibration. At the same time it could provide a native human experience. “Enjoying oneself, with music is in the background” — as I heard it in meditation, as I remembered long ago.

Meditation was a journey. Unless questioned, it was a continual unfolding of moments that somehow melted into each other. In a lengthening thread of peace and insight, subtle energy is released and recreated at the deepest level. Inside the cocoon of your meditation, you are you the person, and you are you, at the creative source of your human energy.

This is who you are …

Meditation is your journey of healing. Life is the time you spend in your healing energy. Your healing energy is love — universal and infinite. In your meditation, there is nothing you cannot heal. Hear the music.

Meditation is for 15 minutes and above. The music will accompany you — notice it, then let it go.

The Great Within is another life. It is concurrent with your daily life now. At the essence of both your lives is your consciousness — “the you, you know to be you, is the you that knows you are love … the you that knows you are infinite”.
